The headline: People in Democrat counties (counties that voted for Hillary Clinton) are almost three times more likely to have died from COVID-19 (as of May 6th, 2020) than in Republican counties (counties that voted for Donald Trump). Further, Democrat counties are over two times (2.3 times) more likely to have been confirmed with COVID-19 in the same time period.
COVID-19 enters out our Illuminating America table in 9th place, where 32.4% of the 2016 election result can be explained by coronavirus. COVID-19 sits one place above Federal Income Taxes and one place below Salaries in terms of explaining the 2016 election.
